Stink, Stank, Stunk. Don’t be a Grinch. Show your love & joy!

This is a reflection of the homily given by Father Vince breaking open the readings from the 32nd Sunday, Cycle B, in Ordinary Time.  Father Vince reminded everyone that Christmas was only 6 weeks away and asked everyone about their favorite Christmas movies.    His was the Grinch and he asked about the problem that the Grinch had.  His heart was too small, three sizes to small.   The Grinch did not show love for anyone.  It was all about himself.

Fr. Vince associated the actions of the Pharisees in the Gospel to the Grinch.  The Pharisees were only concerned about themselves by receiving recognition for whom they were, seeking to be seen, known, and honored for their own glory.  He contrasted this with the love showed by the widow, who was especially vulnerable and impoverished.   In her poverty she gave her all.  She was not seeking any attention.  She was only concerned about others by her contributing all she had to the temple.  She was showing great love and joy.   Don’t be a Grinch. There are too many people in the world acting like the Grinch only caring about themselves.   Be like the widow give of yourself with love and joy.  The Grinch eventually did learn the power of love and his heart grew.   Your heart will grow in the love of Jesus when you show love for others.
